The Porsche 718 Spyder is one of the most engaging open-top sports cars Porsche has ever produced – lightweight, beautifully balanced, and engineered for pure driving enjoyment. With its sculpted lines, exposed cabin and performance-focused design, it’s a car that deserves the very highest level of protection to keep it looking exceptional on every journey.
A few months ago, our Doncaster detailing studio was entrusted with this stunning Porsche 718 Spyder for an in-depth enhancement and protection package. The project began with a two-stage paint correction, followed by a 5-year ceramic coating and specialist roof protection. The results were already transformative – but the client later returned to request the ultimate upgrade: full front-end PPF protection.
This case study takes you through the full process, showcasing how we restored, enhanced, and future-proofed this beautiful 718 Spyder.

Every detailing project begins with a thorough inspection under our controlled lighting system. The Porsche’s paintwork was in good condition overall, but like many performance cars, it had collected light wash marring, fine swirls, and faint scratches over time.
Because this was a multi-stage project, we took great care in preparing the car:
To restore the Porsche’s paintwork to a flawless, high-gloss finish, we carried out a two-stage paint correction, ideal for vehicles with moderate defects or dulling.
Stage One – Cutting
We used a cutting compound and pad combination to remove deeper swirls, light scratches, and oxidation. This process refines the clear coat and re-establishes clarity across the surface.
Stage Two – Refining
The refining stage focuses on gloss enhancement. Using a softer pad and finishing polish, we restored a deep, reflective shine that brought out the true beauty of Porsche’s paint.
Multi-Light Inspection
After correction, every panel was inspected under LED, halogen, and paint-correction lights to ensure a uniform, swirl-free finish from every angle.
The transformation was immediate: the 718 Spyder now boasted a rich, glass-like gloss with flawless clarity.
With the paintwork perfected, it was time to lock in the results with a two-layer, 5-year ceramic coating.
Panel Wipe
We first carried out an IPA panel wipe to remove any oils or residues left over from polishing. This ensures the coating bonds directly to the paint.
Dual-Layer Ceramic Application
The first layer chemically bonds to the paint, creating a hardened, protective base.
The second layer enhances gloss, depth, and durability.
Roof Protection
Because the Spyder features a fabric roof, we applied a specialist hydrophobic coating designed for convertible tops. This protects the material from water absorption, fading, staining, and environmental damage.
Curing
The coating was carefully levelled and left to cure in our temperature-controlled studio, forming a long-lasting protective shell.
With ceramic coating applied, the Porsche now had:
A few months later, after enjoying the results, the owner returned with a new request: ultimate stone-chip and impact protection for the front end.
This is a popular upgrade for performance car owners, especially those who enjoy spirited driving or motorway mileage. Even the toughest ceramic coatings cannot prevent stone chips – but Paint Protection Film (PPF) can.
Full Front-End PPF Included:
Using premium self-healing film, we applied each piece with precision, ensuring a seamless finish with no creases, bubbles, or visible edges.
The benefits of PPF on a car like this are huge:
This combination of ceramic coating + PPF delivers the ultimate protection strategy: ceramic for gloss and easy maintenance, PPF for physical impact defence.

With paint correction, ceramic coating, roof protection, and front-end PPF completed, the Porsche 718 Spyder now has:
The transformation was significant, and the client was thrilled with the results. Not only does the car look incredible, but it is now protected against the challenges of real-world driving for years to come.
