The Audi RS5 is a car that commands attention wherever it goes. With its twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 TFSI engine producing 444bhp, wide arching bodywork, and that unmistakable RS quad exhaust note, it sits in a rare sweet spot between outright performance car and everyday usability. It’s a machine built to be driven hard and driven often — and that’s exactly why proper paint protection isn’t just a luxury on a car like this, it’s a necessity. This particular RS5 arrived at Crystal Car in a condition that didn’t quite do justice to the car underneath. Road miles, environmental contaminants, and the inevitable swirl marks from previous incorrect washing had left the paintwork looking dull and tired under inspection lighting. The owner knew their car deserved better, and we couldn’t agree more.

Before any correction work could begin, the vehicle went through a thorough decontamination process. This involved a full foam pre-soak to loosen and lift surface-level dirt, followed by a careful two-bucket hand wash using pH-neutral solutions that clean without stripping any existing protection or causing further marring to the paint. Once dry, we moved on to an iron fallout removal treatment, drawing out the microscopic ferrous particles embedded in the lacquer from brake dust and road debris — contamination you genuinely cannot see with the naked eye but that causes real long-term damage to the paint surface if left untreated.
With the car fully decontaminated, we moved under our professional inspection lighting to carry out a thorough paint depth assessment and defect analysis. The RS5’s paintwork revealed moderate to heavy swirl marks across all horizontal panels, water spot etching on the bonnet and roof, and a number of random isolated scratches across the doors and rear quarter panels. A Stage 2 paint correction was clearly the right call. Stage 2 correction involves two stages of machine polishing — the first an aggressive cutting stage using a compound and cutting pad combination to physically level the clear coat and remove the defects, and the second a refinement stage using a lighter polish and finishing pad to restore maximum clarity and gloss. Panel by panel, we worked our way around the entire car, checking our work under lights after each section to ensure every scratch and swirl had been eliminated before moving on. The transformation in the paint alone was extraordinary — the deep Nardo Grey finish opened up into a mirror-like depth that simply wasn’t visible before.

Following the correction work, the paint was wiped down with an IPA (isopropyl alcohol) solution to remove any polish residue and oils, leaving a completely bare, clean surface — the ideal base for coating application. We then applied a professional-grade 5-year ceramic coating to every exterior painted surface, glass, wheels, and plastic trim. Ceramic coating forms a semi-permanent bond with the substrate, creating a layer of SiO2 protection that is hydrophobic, UV-resistant, and chemically inert. In practical terms, this means water and dirt bead and sheet off the surface with ease, bird lime and tree sap have far less ability to bond and etch, and the paintwork retains its corrected gloss for years rather than weeks. A 5-year rated coating on a car like the RS5 is an investment that pays dividends every single time it rains.
While the exterior curing process was underway, we turned our attention to the interior. The RS5’s cabin had accumulated the kind of ingrained grime that builds up gradually over time — dirt in the seat bolsters, residue in the door card stitching, dust in the ventilation fins, and general film across the dashboard and trim. Our interior deep clean process involves a full vacuum of every surface and crevice, steam cleaning of upholstery and carpet to lift embedded soiling without the use of harsh chemicals, thorough cleaning of all hard surfaces including the MMI screen surround and steering wheel, and a careful leather clean and condition treatment on the front and rear seats. The end result was an interior that matched the now-immaculate exterior — fresh, spotless, and feeling genuinely showroom-new.

When the owner returned to collect their RS5, the reaction said everything. A car that had arrived looking worn and neglected left looking better than it had the day it rolled out of the dealership. With five years of ceramic protection locked in and a truly corrected, flawless finish underneath, this RS5 is as ready for the road as the day it was built — and it’ll stay that way.
